Option C - Mystery Wine Game
Event Type: Interactive, Social, Slightly Educational

Our unique Mystery Wine Game concept has proved very popular at various corporate functions. Initially launched at the Outward Bound Annual Charity Ball held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in 2005, the game involves a 'blind' tasting of an Australian wine, with people in the game then completing a specially designed answer card on which they tick boxes indicating their guess as to wine variety, vintage, region of origin and alcohol content of the wine.

Consider a Mystery Wine Game evening which culminates in your guests playing the game for some interesting prizes (no guess what the prizes will be!). Leading up to the game, however, the guests will have the opportunity of enjoying a number of different and excellent boutique wines from Australia.

Starting with some white wine, perhaps a Chardonnay and a Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, guests may then work through a range of red wines – a Pinot Noir and a Merlot, then onto a Cabernet Merlot, a cabernet Sauvignon and then a Shiraz. Perhaps a few different Cabernets and Shiraz will be tasted from different wine regions – after all, the Mystery Wine Game includes guessing the region of origin!

We have found that the participation rate in the Mystery Wine Game amongst guests at a corporate function is very high. It is easy to organise, is lots of fun and need not be taken too seriously.

The game can be played at the end of the Australian Wine Adventure or a whole function can revolve around the game. A number of different rounds can be played and some quiz/trivia rounds can also be played where participants, either on their own or in teams, answer quiz questions which have a general wine theme, with a few non-wine questions perhaps thrown in. Included in Appendix C, we have included a sample quiz round containing five quiz questions.

We gave found that adopting a team approach provided added interaction and is a very good format for teambuilding and for social interaction between hosts and their clients.

With a general Mystery Wine Game theme as a basis, we are able to work with your event organizer or host to adapt the format to specifically cater for your particular event – for example, if the event is for employees, a few of the questions can be work or industry specific. Please contact us and we will assist to make your wine evening an unforgettable experience for all.
